A Letter to Parents

Dear Parents,

The birth of a child brings new meaning to a family; parents bestow many hopes and dreams on their children. Most parents have healthy children, so when some children turn out to be not so healthy, their parents can feel alone and helpless. Unfortunately, not even the best doctors and specialists can make accurate diagnoses during the first few months after birth.

When parents find out their children are diagnosed with cerebral palsy (CP), the agonizing pain shatters the dreams that they had for their children, and parents fall into a pit of anxiety and helplessness.

Indeed, the children who are afflicted with cerebral palsy are not at fault. Compared to other disabled people, CP children especially need their parents’ love and support. As they get older, it is especially difficult for CP children and their families if they cannot be self-sufficient.

As parents, first recognize that your child is unique and that you and your child must commit to making extraordinary efforts through this extremely difficult journey. You will find the rewards precious and worthwhile. Secondly, your child's future is not without hope. Many CP children successfully navigate the rehabilitation process and enter formal schools, live independently, and ultimately lead very fulfilling lives. CP people of any age can utilize proper rehabilitation treatments to achieve varying degrees of improvement, thus lightening the burden on themselves and their parents.

Coping with CP requires a lifelong effort that is unwavering and resilient. Parents are the best and most important allies to CP therapists and medical personnel. They must work closely together to foster the best environment for CP children to succeed.

To help CP children fulfill their dreams of integrating into society and build their own happy futures, let us work together, hand in hand.

Sincerely,

CereCare
