Volunteer Manual

Volunteers have become an integral part of CereCare, thanks to the support of numerous volunteers. Over time, we have increased our expectations for volunteers and have made some edits to the volunteer manual.

We would like to re-emphasize a few points

1. Please control your noise level when you enter into CereCare.

2. Wash your hands before entering the classroom and place your belongings in the designated place.

3. Because CP children have weak immune systems, we ask that if you are sick, please switch out with another volunteer or take the day off.

4. If you bring snacks for the children, please give them to the teacher to confirm that the children can eat it and to allocate accordingly.

5. If you bring toys for the children, please first give them to the teacher.

6. Please do not come to CereCare after having consumed alcohol; we will ask you to leave immediately.

7. Please obey classroom rules, including no cell phones, no private chats, and no pushing or shoving the children and teachers.

8. If you have any questions or concerns (e.g. problems with feeding the children or helping them use the toilet), please contact Ms. Gao, our rehabilitation director, or another person in charge.

9. If you would like to donate items or money, please contact directors at CereCare.

Thank you for your cooperation

Volunteer Contract

Introduction

Every volunteer who comes to CereCare must be “loving, caring, persistent, determined, and confident.” This work is special and requires a great deal of persistence and commitment.

CereCare sincerely thanks all volunteers for serving CP children with love and passion. We have thus created the following manual to help volunteers provide the best service. Please read this manual carefully before you sign the contract. Agreeing to follow the manual is a prerequisite to volunteering at CereCare.

1. Principle

1.1 You comply with CereCare’s mission, goals, and regulations.

1.2 You follow the laws and customs of the surrounding area and country while you work as a volunteer at CereCare.

1.3 CereCare prohibits any illegal or religious activities.

2.  Joining Process

2.1 You must be accepted by CereCare or a volunteer group and fill out the application completely and truthfully before you can begin volunteering.

2.2 Based on the schedule set by each volunteer, those volunteers who participate 3 months or more consecutively and at a fixed time are defined as ‘Advanced Volunteers,’ while those who cannot fulfill those conditions are defined as ‘Regular Volunteers.’

2.3 Depending on what your specific work will be, you must attend the corresponding training and be certified before volunteering.

2.4 If for some reason your schedule has changed, please inform CereCare or your volunteer group at least one day before your assigned volunteering time.

2.5 Please sign in and out when you arrive at and leave CereCare.

3. Service

3.1 Please submit your medical records to CereCare. For the sake of the children’s health, CereCare does not allow volunteers to work if you are sick with a contagious disease. If you feel unwell at any point during your service, please go to our infirmary.

3.2 Please follow your arranged service time and project and obey CereCare’s teachers or your volunteer group.

3.3 Please observe the occasional changes that CereCare makes to the schedule and projects. CereCare documents all volunteers’ participation and commends those who excel.

3.4 If you have any objections, suggestions, or concerns about an activity or service project, please communicate with CereCare’s teachers. Adjustments to activities need to be approved by the teachers.

3.5 For the sake of the children’s health at CereCare, please do not smoke or eat outside food in CereCare.

3.6 Please watch out for the safety of the children, yourself, and others. CereCare is not responsible for any of your injuries due to negligence. Furthermore, CereCare reserves the right to hold you responsible for any damage that you incur on others and CereCare.

3.7 Please obey regulations and contact CereCare’s teachers if you plan on bringing the children outside of the normal classroom to do activities.

3.8 Please contact CereCare teachers for professional training if you are interested in helping feed the children.

3.9 Please behave appropriately in front of the children. CereCare asks that you do not say or do anything hurtful towards them, such as pitying them or commenting on their mental and physical conditions. Please consult our teachers about related issues.

3.10 CereCare encourages volunteers to foster the children’s positive behaviors and correct their negative behaviors, or ask the teachers to do so.

3.11 On principle, CereCare does not accept unscheduled activities by volunteers, but you can consult our teachers if you have such a request.

3.12 To avoid disputes, CereCare discourages volunteers against giving the children or their families medical or rehabilitation advice. Our teachers are receptive to hearing your suggestions and comments in private.

3.13 CereCare does not condone any volunteers using their service as a self-promotional opportunity and will take necessary actions, including aborting the activities, to stop such behavior.

3.14 Volunteers cannot accept any invitation, interview, or report from the media, the government, or other non-profit organizations in the name of CereCare without our authorization.

3.15 CereCare encourages and appreciates any suggestions and comments that you may have and ask that you consult with our teachers or our director.

4. Behavior and Dress Code

4.1 Please wear comfortable and casual clothes; we advise against wearing makeup, high heels shoes, or short skirts.

4.2 Please keep all noise levels to a minimum to avoid disturbing the classroom environment.

4.3 Please model positive behaviors at CereCare and avoid excessively intimate or other inappropriate behaviors.

5. Information

5.1 Please ask for permission from our volunteers director before you can take any photos or videos with/of the children.

5.2 Please keep any information relating to the children’s backgrounds confidential. CereCare reserves the right to further claim if the leak of information causes damage to the children or to CereCare.

5.3 CereCare will ask volunteers for permission to publicize your personal and contact information and we will keep confidential any information that you did not give permission for.

6. Donations

Your care and support are integral to CereCare’s development. We sincerely thank the individuals and groups that donate to us and promise to use such donations towards the designated recipient(s), facilities, or services. To donate, please contact our donation coordinator or finance department (telephone: 021-54394328 or email: info@cerecare.org.cn )

7. Termination of Services

7.1 If you cannot handle your assigned work at CereCare, please contact the director of your volunteer group to transfer your work and related information to someone else.

7.2 If CereCare would like to terminate your services, we will contact you in advance to transfer your work and relate materials elsewhere.

7.3 When your services end, CereCare can provide a reference letter based on the volunteer service records. For the outstanding volunteers, we will contact you or your volunteer group to honor your excellence.

On behalf of all the staff and children at CereCare, thank you to all the volunteers.

The above manual is compiled and explained by CereCare and is subject to change. Please contact CereCare for further information.
