Volunteer Activities

Volunteers can choose from the following activities and participate in varying degrees.

1. assist teaching as a Conductor Group 2 member during the weekend

2. Sing, play games, and interact with the children during the weekend

3. monthly birthday celebrations

4. outdoor activities

5. other visits or group activities

6. CereCare’s Anniversary Celebration (in November)

Things to keep in mind for volunteers

1. Please communicate with the teachers to understand their teaching and training methods. For example, sometimes they bind certain things to the children’s bodies, or during massage therapy the children may look uncomfortable, but these are designed for rehabilitative purposes and not meant to be abusive.

2. Judge whether the children’s requests are reasonable or not. Always satisfying their requests will enable the children to form bad habits.

3. Communicate with the teachers before you do anything. For instance, if you would like to bring gifts, please ascertain whether or not it is actually needed and if you can buy them yourself.

4. Please refrain from giving the children unhealthy snacks to avoid accidents and allergies or forming bad eating habits.

Tips for assisting the children

1. Always keep good posture.

2. Stand in front of the child and use both hands to lead them in walking, do not hold them from the back or pull by one hand. Make sure the child’s posture is correct and that they hold their hands out straight.

3. Help the therapist to remind the children to be in correct postures and follow orders correctly.
