Overview

Features of Conductive Education

CereCare combines physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), speech therapy (ST), sensory integration therapy (SIT) and other therapy methods into the conductive education curriculum and the children’s daily life. The combination of rehab and education can maximize children’s potential and build their confidence.

1. Conductor – rehabilitation teacher; the role of a conductor is an observer, planner, coordinator and educator.

2. Small group – small groups provide the opportunity for communication and improving interpersonal skills, an essential part of personality development.

3. Rhythmic intention – Rhythmic intention has two elements: rhythm and intention

Intention: Children must have a goal before executing activities and voice their intention to mentally prepare for the activity. The combination of language and activity will also improve motor skills learning.

Rhythm: rhythmic counting, verbal repetition, and rhythmic songs give children a sense of timing. Rhythm unites the group and regulates timing.

For example: “I hold my hand: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.”. In this case, “I hold my hand” is the intention, and counting from one to five is the rhythm.

4. Task series – task series is a facilitation technique that designs specific training for each child according to his or her needs. Conductors use rhythmic intention to direct children to accomplish various task series that help them practice certain postures and movements.

5. Daily routine – Daily routines give the children the chance to exercise what they have learned in class in their daily lives. Daily routines are practices in living skills, such as the correct postures to get up, put on clothing, groom oneself, drink water, eat food, walk (general movement), use the toilet, etc.

6. Conductive Education classroom furniture – wooden beds, ladder back chairs, ladder back standing frames, wooden stools, rolling stools, etc.

7. Learning environment of conductive education – learning environment is a key factor for success. A well designed environment takes into account children’s muscle movements, cognition, and functional activities to improve learning, enforce task series, and help them reach their goals.
